Tonight I took a little break from my work and went to the movies with some friends. We went to see Stranger Than Fiction. I must say, it was so good. I'm rarely that impressed with movies, but this one was really good. It kind of reminded me of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, another favorite of mine. I must warn you though, there is one locker room scene where you see several old man butts, so if you're going to the movies with your family during the holidays, it might be a little awkward to be sitting by your dad during that scene. Other than that, it's great!

Just got back from Lubbock, again. I had all of my pre-op stuff done yesterday. I need to have my gallbladder taken out. So what am I, 75 years old? They will take it out during my surgery. The end of semester stress has definitely hit. So much to do...so little time.

Whoa, I'm sitting here in Church History class and I just realized that two weeks from this moment I'll be in surgery. That's nuts.

Oh my gosh, how good was Grey's tonight, seriously. I really like Dr. Hann. What's going to happen to Burk. I'm excited to see Christina and Burk apart for awhile. And, Addison and Alex, I wondered if that was going to happen. Is there a possibility that Addison is pregnant? I've heard that several places. Poor George. When is Izzy going to spend that money? And of course, I'm so happy to see Derek and Meredith together. I wonder how long it will last this time. It's not like they can go on forever without putting any McDrama into the DerMer plot line.

Anyways, I've had such a good Thanksgiving. Since this would be my last holiday meal (forever), my mom told me she would cook whatever I wanted. We ate with my aunt and uncle (Doris and Frank) and another family from church (the Starchers). We had such a good time. I really have so much to be thankful for. For this post I'll focus on one thing that I'm so thankful for this year. I have been blessed with so many good friends. This is a shout out to my three best girl friends. Allison, Lynsey, and Anne-Marie have been such a big part of my life. This year we were able to get together for a much needed reunion. It's funny, we acted just like we did in high school. Some things never change I guess. These are women of God who have definitely shaped who I am and I love them for that (even if they are the three least punctual people on the planet). So, thanks for being my friend. Here are some pictures from our reunion that I stole from Lynsey's myspace.

This one was taken in some booth-thingy at ChuckeeCheese. This shot was our fourth attempt to get a good picture. The little girl in the middle is Allison's, not just some random kid we picked up.

And this is a picture from our hotel room. Notice how Lynsey is molesting Anne-Marie. To be honest, she molested me a lot too. I had to sleep with one eye open, if you know what I'm talking about. I'm not sure what is going on there.

Wednesday, November 22, 2006

Well, after a very fast visit to Kansas City I am home for the holiday. I've noticed that my blog format doesn't look right on my parents' computer. It's supposed to be navy blue and pretty, not white and ugly. So, if it is ugly on your computer I'm sorry and I have no idea how to fix it.

I need a favor. A friend of mine from California has a friend who is trying to be the Big Lots elf for Christmas this year. He is running against a cute little girl and a little person, so the odds are stacked against him. So, go to http://biglots.com and click on the link to vote for the spokes elf and vote for Brian. Today is the last day to do this.

I hope you all have a super Thanksgiving eve.

Birth

Preaching is like giving birth. (Not that I know what birth is like, I'm just speculating)

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

School has been pretty hard lately. Yes, there's a lot of work to get done: papers, projects, sermons, reading. But that's not really what I'm talking about. I came into graduate school expecting to take a bunch of ministry courses so I could enter a church and know exactly what to do. However, I haven't really taken that many ministry courses and I have very few ministry to-do lists in my memory bank. The real work involved in this program is transformation. This seminary does not exist to simply fill minds with information. The point is to transform students into incarnational people who act as Christ acted, love as he loved, walk with people as he walked, and die and he died. It's easy to learn facts and do the right thing. We do it all the time. But I'm not called to do, I'm called to be. To be Christ in this world. This is infinitely harder.

HUGE BREAKING NEWS!

I just saw a commercial advertising the release of Beverly Hills 90210 on DVD. Man, life is good. 22 episodes of Brandon and Kelly and Dylan and Brenda and Steve and Donna and David and Andrea. Oh yeah baby!

Did anyone catch Desperate Housewives tonight? That was nuts!

Saturday, November 04, 2006

I'm still a little high from yesterday. I preached for the first time in my preaching class. I feel really good about how it went. Honestly, I loved it. I have to wonder if I hadn't grown up in the churches of Christ where women were so squelched, would I have wanted to be a preacher when I grew up? I guess I'll never know.

Grey's was pretty good last night, I guess. It's starting to get a little predictable, isn't it? When I saw the previews I knew that woman was going to be Derek's sister. And it was pretty obvious that Alex was going to go join the gyny squad. I need some surprises. Honestly, I just don't like Callie. She's such a weird-o. I can't have any compassion for her because she's so weird. I loved the ham and eggs metaphor. How great is that. I keep liking Addison more and more. And I'm a little mad at Burk. Just tell the chief about your stupid hand. Don't put people's lives in danger. Come on. I hope Christina gets is good from Bailey. And oh Derek and Meredith, take your time, all the time you need, just as long as you get together in the end.

Has everyone been following the Madonna adoption story? Any thoughts??

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

So no one wants to talk about God huh.

How about some pop culture news. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe announced their separation yesterday. How sad. I love Reese, and I thought they were such a cute couple. I know one thing, when I get married I am not moving to Hollywood. That's the place marriages go to die!

Here is a little video I found the other day. The song is called Red Rover by Rosie Thomas. She is probably my favorite musician right now. I just love her voice.

Sunday, October 29, 2006

Time for an update, eh?

I just got home from Peet's coffee shop where I was writing a paper. It's a tough paper. The topic is God. Who is God? How do I answer that? It took a long time to wrap my head around this. The thought that kept coming to mind was: God is redemptive. In all of our sin and pain and filth, God is working hard to redeem us. So, I want to know who is God to you? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

By the way, thanks for all of the love and support following the post about my surgery. It means so much.

Yesterday I registered for my last semester of school. I will actually be graduating in May (as long as I don't fail). I can't believe how fast my time here is flying by.

The Diary of a Fat Woman

Well, I have an announcement to make. It's kind of a big deal in my life, so I'll give you the back story. The summer I worked at Camp Blue Haven ('02) I busted up my knee. I dealt with it for two years until I saw my doctor about it. He said that he needed to operate, which I was expecting. Then he said that I was in for more knee surgeries, ankle surgeries, hip problems, etc. unless I did something drastic about my weight problem. In his opinion, with my disease and medical history my only realistic option for losing the weight would be gastric bypass surgery. It came as a shock that my doctor would recommend something so drastic. At the time I didn't know anything about the surgery except what I'd seen on media reports. So, I started doing some research about the operation and decided that it was probably my best option. The timing didn't feel right though. I had just graduated from college and was looking for a job. I was also somewhat emotionally unhealthy at the time, so I decided to shelve the issue for a while. During the spring of this year I started thinking about the surgery again. I was/am doing so much better emotionally. I would like to have already had this surgery before I start my career. And, my school schedule would be good for this type of surgery because I have huge month long breaks for recovery time. So, I started looking around at doctors and even went to Dallas one weekend for a initial appointment with a surgeon who'd been recommended. The doctor I felt the most comfortable with was Dr. Syn who practices in Lubbock. He is very competent and has even operated on a patient with my disease. I trust him completely with my operation. The next big battle was with the insurance company. They initially denied my request for coverage, but I found out last Friday that they'd approved my second request. That is such a huge blessing. So, there you have it. On December 12th, I will be going in for a major surgery that is going to change me drastically. Honestly, I don't even know all of the ways this surgery is going to change me, but I'm as prepared as I can be for both the good and the bad. I would ask for your support and prayers as I enter this new phase of life.

By the way, Grey's was awesome tonight!!

Breaking Grey's News:
McSteamy (Mark) is joining the cast full time. He's super hot!

I have had such a great time with my Kansas kids this weekend. I guess I didn't realize how much I was missing them.

I'm sorry my posts are so boring. There just not a lot going on lately. I'll try to go out and make my life more exciting so reading this blog will be more entertaining. Have a great day everyone!

Thursday, September 28, 2006

So, I think I may have broken my toe. What else is new.

I'm about to head off to my weekend class. These classes are tough. Thursday: 1:00-10:00, Friday: 8:00-5:00, and Saturday: 8:00-12:00. I'm always so tired when I get through. I don't want to be tired this weekend because some of my peeps from Kansas are coming for a visit! I'm so excited to see them.

I'm also excited about a new Grey's tonight! I guess that's all that is going on right now in my life: class and Grey's. Things could be worse :)

Sunday, September 24, 2006

I know that many of you are concerned that I died since I didn't post immediately about Greys. So, let me just say, it was awesome. I loved the flashbacks. I loved the depiction of grief. McDreamy finally said I Love You!! What was the deal with Bailey? Addison was a little McPsycho. What a great show. Thanks ABC.

I went to the big Lubb this weekend. My sister Julie sells this clothing line called CAbi (Carol Anderson by invitation) and my mom was having a show. I love watching women get excited about clothes. It's hilarious. If you ever want to host a show just let me know and I'll get Julie right on it. Anyways, I got to spend the whole weekend playing with my niece Kaelan. She is 18 months old now, and definitely the cutest baby/little girl in the whole world. (I know a lot of moms read this blog, so I'm sorry to say this, but Kaelan really is the cutest, your child is not.)

Abilene has been treating me well these days. I think it's finally getting cooler- thank the Lord. ACU just finished (or almost finished) putting up a new sculpture of Jacob's dream from Genesis 28. It's pretty amazing. It's in the middle of a prayer/ meditation/stonehengey area with a fountain and baptismal pool. You definitely feel a little closer to the presence of God when you are there. Yay ACU for campus improvements.

I don't have much else to update about. School is pretty much kicking me in the butt. I am constantly feeling dumber and dumber. I think that's the point though. Graduate school definitely makes you humble or at least it makes me humble. If you're not in grad school, pray for me. If you are, I'll see you in the library.

Have a great week everyone!

Okay, who left a comment about my inability to park straight?? I blame my lack of parking ability on my disease. Hear me out on this one. Because of my disease, the state of Texas allows me to park in handicapped parking, so I'm used to having an extra three feet to fit the car into. After years of parking in huge spaces I have really lost my ability to park the car straightly. So, I'm sorry that I can't park.

Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Well, second day... not as scary as the first. I had Christian History 1 this morning and I think it is going to be a great class, except for the fact that it meets at 8:00 in the morning. I always feel like such a big baby when I whine about being somewhere at 8:00. I know that's what the rest of America must do. It just seems awfully early to be required to think so deeply.

I made jambalaya last night in honor of New Orleans. Now my kitchen is a mess. Somehow I don't seem to possess the ability to stir something on the stove without it ending up all over the floor. I guess I need to work on that.

I'm in the library right now. Aren't you proud of me?? The ACU library has improved dramatically over the last year. Along with the new "learning communities" and the Starbucks, there is a new Theological wing that is really nice. Hopefully the undergrads will stay out of here so I can actually get some work done while I'm in the library. As loud as I am, I actually need it to be fairly quiet while I attempt to learn.

First Day

The first day of school is so fun. I love seeing old friends again. I also love that feeling I get every fall that this will be the year of change. This will be the year that I don't procrastinate. This will be the year that I read like I'm supposed to. This will be the year that I don't just get by. Will this be that year? I guess we'll see! One thing I do know is that Dr. Aquino is scary on the first day of class. He says he's more scared of us, but I don't know how true that is. I'm pretty scared.

Back to life...

Well, it's been a nice three month vacation, but now it's time to return to my real life. I just got back to Abilene and already spent 500 dollars on books! Holy crap- that's way too much money to be spending on books. On Monday I'll be starting my semester off with three hours of Systematic Theology. Honestly, I don't even know what that is, so I guess I'll be learning a lot in that class.

I found out this week that I have been seriously close to death and I didn't even know it. I had a sleep study done and found out that I have some serious sleep apnea. Apparently I would quit breathing 44 times an hour. Once I even quit breathing for 38 seconds!! Again, holy crap- that's way to long to deprive your brain of oxygen. I can only hold my breathe for about 10 seconds. I must have super hero breath holding powers when I'm asleep. So, this morning I was fitted for a nifty darth vader mask to help keep my airway open while I sleep. No dying for me.

I'm really enjoying the CRV. It's so nice. I've gotten the picnic table out four times, but I haven't actually used it yet, I just like to look at it. The CRV fulfills a deep dark secret desire I have. I've never really told anyone this, but I LOVE driving mini-vans. I know, I know, only uncool soccer moms love to drive mini-vans, but I just love the way they drive and I like to imagine myself as a wonderful mother carting my kids around. Anyways, the CRV drives just like a mini-van, so it makes me think I'm driving a van without actually being an uncool 24 year old single gal.

This summer my apartment became the place where bugs came to die. They're everywhere. I guess it's time to end this post and put the dirt devil to good use ridding my apartment of 4-legged, 6-legged, and maybe a few 8-legged creatures. Have a great night blog world. There's two episodes of Grey's on tonight from 7-9 and they're really good ones, so tonight should be wonderful for all!

Friday, August 18, 2006

This is pretty funny.

Blogging just got a whole lot better...

...on my new laptop! Grad school really requires a laptop, so I decided to use my summer money to buy one. I got a great deal on a really nice computer. Now, there's no reason I shouldn't get a 4.0 this semester... Yeah right! It's nice to type in bed while watching Sex and the City reruns on the WB. This is the episode where Carrie and Aiden break up the second time, it's so sad.

I have another new toy! After all of my car troubles last week, it's time to say goodbye to the beloved Impala. So, I'm going to be the proud driver of a Honda CRV!

I have wanted one of these for a really long time. It has so many great features, but the best one is the hidden picnic table in the back! Ahhhh! That is the greatest thing ever. And underneath the table there is a little compartment that has a drain so you can fill it with ice and drinks. Is this the party mobile or what!! I'm really excited. I'll go to Dallas on Friday to pick it up from my cousin the Honda dealer. New cars are so fun!

I had such a good day today. God answered a lot of questions and gave me a lot of confidence and affirmation.

Friday, August 11, 2006

Well, I made it back to Lubbock, it was quite a journey though. It took me twelve hours to get from Dallas to Lubbock. I broke down on the side of the road and had to be rescued by my wonderful dad. I was able to spend some great time with God though thanks to David Crowder's new cd: B Collision. Have you heard it? It's really good. I would call it techno-bluegrass which is weird but really cool. This cd is pretty dark. It deals a lot with death as the band has dealt with the death of their pastor.

I'm off to the big ole Mullican family reunion this weekend. I have a really great family and I'm excited about this weekend, I'm just dreading the car ride. I'm ready to be out of the car for little while.

I have a lot more to update about, but it will have to wait for now. Take care blogworld.

Growth

Well, this is my last post from the basement of my cute little house in Overland Park, Kansas. My internship responsibilities are over and in the morning I'll be getting up way too early to drive back to the way too big state of Texas. I just can't believe how fast this summer has gone by. It seems like just yesterday I was stepping off a curb and breaking my foot.

I love to leave a place or experience and feel like I'm a different person than I was when I came. I feel like I have grown so much this summer. Growing is hard and painful. Growing is joyful and exciting. Usually we don't even realize we're doing it. This summer has meant so much to me. Thank you OP.

Wednesday, August 02, 2006

Okay, now I realize that most of you come to this site for your daily dose of absolute hilarity. And while I try to be funny for you, from time to time I just need to be blah. So, this post is an emotion dump.

First of all, I leave Kansas in just five short days. I can't believe it. This summer has flown by so fast. I'm very sad to leave. I have fallen in love with these kids, their parents, the church, the youth minister and his family, and even the city. I can't imagine this being the end. These relationships are so important to me. Two months is just enough time to really build a deep realtionship and now it's time to say bye.

Next, I am broken hearted. I have loved Mr. C for a long long time. I finally got the guts to tell him how I felt, but sadly the feelings we're not mutual. All of this happened the day before camp, so I had to go be fun and silly for six days instead of dealing with it. I'm still pretty sad, although I do feel a certain amount of peace because it's all out on the table and I can move on.

And last, within the next year I am going to have major surgery. This surgery will change my life. I know it's going to be a positive thing in the end, but it is a huge weight hanging over my head. It's hard to hold all of this in, but I'm not ready to spill all the details right now.

I'll end with a picture of the cutest kids ever. I know you can't really see them that well, but this will have to do.

So much to write, so little time...

Monday, July 24, 2006

Okay I must say, camp wore me out. I do not heart camp anymore after last week. It's interesting how heat follows me. I came up to Kansas this summer hoping for a little break from the Texas heat, this has been one of Kansas' hottest summers though. Last week at camp in central Missouri, we just happened to be there during the hottest week of the year. Our last day there, the temp was 106 degrees. Yes, that's right, 106 degrees with no air conditioning... anywhere. We measured the temperature in the cabins at 120. I've never been so hot in all my life. I remember actually thinking, "If I stayed here much longer, I could literally die." I didn't pee in my pants though, so that's a plus.

Two weeks from today I'll be leaving Kansas. I just can't believe that. How sad am I! I get emotional just thinking about it. So, no more typing about it.

Saturday, July 15, 2006

Well, I'm off to camp for a week. Please pray that I don't pee in my pants. Thanks.
And the truth shall set you free...

Wow, I never knew how true that statement was. I just did something that required me to be more honest than I have ever been in my whole life. And I feel so much better. The truth does set you free! Who knew?

Wednesday, July 12, 2006

I'm so blessed. I'm having such a great summer. I was talking to my boss today about my last day and I started getting so emotional. I don't know how I'm going to leave. Here's some pictures for you.

Sunday, July 09, 2006

Okay, this story is for Lynsey Moudy. If I was a lady, I wouldn't write about this on the internet. If you are grossed out by stories about peeing on yourself, I would skip today's entry.

I must say, camping probably isn't my thing. It's really fun to set up your tent and build a fire, but then it's not cute anymore and I'm ready to go home. This weekend on our canoe trip we camped out in southern Missouri. Our campsite was pretty big, and we were definitely the only sober people there. On the first night I woke up around 4:00 am and I really needed to pee. I could still hear the drunk people around us partying and I was a little scared to walk to the bath house to use the toilet. Plus, I couldn't find my flashlight and I have bad feet right now. So, a dark solo journey up to the bath house was out of the question. Then I thought I'd mind over matter it, but that didn't last long and I knew I had to do something. So, I unzipped my tent and there were two of my highschool girls sleeping about three feet from my tent. It was too bad though, I had to go. So I just squatted right there by my tent and by the girls. One of them did wake up, but she thought it was funny. So, on night number two I didn't sweat it. I'm a pee-pro, I'll just unzip the tent, pee, and hop back in my tent, no problem. When I woke up around three I knew that I had to move quickly because my bladder was full. I rolled over and grabbed the zipper and oh crap it's stuck. I can handle this...unstuck...now stuck again...crap...CRAP. The tent zipper finally set me free, but by then it was too late to pull down my pants and squat. I was already peeing. So I just went with it. For some reason, if a zipper is involved, I'm destined to pee in my pants. I really need to move to a zipper free world.

Friday, July 07, 2006

Well, I'm off to the canoe trip. I'm about to spend the next two nights in a tent. I'm not really what you'd call an outdoorsy girl, so I'm not really looking forward to this intimate time with nature. It will be great fun with the kids though, I just hope I don't have to squat in the woods.

Thursday, July 06, 2006

My kids love to play Scrabble. Isn't that weird, they're teenagers. Last time we played I won with the amazing word "axle" landing on a triple word score. Gotta love the X. Tonight, however, I was defeated. I'm not going to lie, it's a bit of a blow to lose when I'm half way through a master's program and everyone else is in high school.

How was everyone's 4th of July? I spent the day working on a quilt (my newest hobby). Then I watched some fire works from my patio. Some people might be depressed to spend the holiday alone, but for me it was a gift. I love to be alone. It's so nice. I can wear pajamas all day and be judged by no one. That's luxury.

See this pile of stuff behind these two ladies. It represents a family's entire life. Years and years of purchases and gifts and payment plans and memories. When we were talking about our experience in New Orleans, one of the kids said: "It all goes to the curb." Even that special stuff that we justify having and even worshipping still ends up in a pile of rubble. I once had a friend who told me he just wanted to be homeless. I'm starting to understand that more and more. I hate being so motivated by stuff. When will I be able to buy a new car, or buy a house, or get DVR. These things just seem so worthless now.

***************************

I'm feeling more and more loved here as the layers of Sue continue to be exposed. On our trip, while we were waiting for the youth minister, one of our dads told all of the kids and adults to look at me and I'd tell them a story. So, there I was, 60 people staring at me and wanting an entertaining story. In these circumstances there is only one story that is appropriate. Ahh yes, the time I peed in my pants when I was in college. I still have a job after telling that story, this church must be a place full of love. The people here are also discovering the fact that I do not have an inside voice. I think they're surprised that one person can be so loud all the time. In the back of my mind I keep thinking, they ain't seen nothing yet.

***************************

Camp is quickly approaching. Just two more weeks. I love camp. If I could pick a dream life, I'd live at camp all year around. I would have to do something about the shower situation though. There's nothing nastier than needing to wear shoes to protect yourself from fungus when you're just trying to get clean.

***************************

Please pray for my dear friend Albert Hall. We interned together at Broadway in 2003. I read a message on MySpace that he and his wife lost their baby girl who was due in just a week or so. I don't know any details. What a tragedy.

Has everyone seen this video?? It's hilarious.

Thursday, June 29, 2006

A month. I've been here for a month now and I can't believe how fast it has flown by. I've spent this week recovering from a brutal sun burn. When we left New Orleans, we took the kids to Galveston for a free day. I think the last time I went swimming was the summer after my Junior year in high school, so needless to say my skin is feeling the painful affects of spending a day at the beach after seven years of hibernation. I'm never going outside again.

Here's some more New Orleans pictures.

This is looking through a front door.

I think that is a wedding dress hanging on the mail box.

Cleaning out a pantry. Gross.

Looting is still a huge problem. People can't begin remodeling their houses because all of the tools, supplies, and furnishings will be stolen.

This is Private Cunningham. We found him in our first house and he helped us out a lot.

This was the living room in our first house before we started working.

The same living room after we were finished.

This is my fellow intern Chris Lair.

This is one of our dads named Jerry. He's a beast. I think his group finished a house every day.

This was in the 9th ward.

We found tons of Mardi Gras beads.

destruction and redemption

We returned from New Orleans a couple of hours ago and I have so many thoughts. I know my words can't really do justice to the experience I just had, but I'll try.

First of all, I have to brag on my kids. They were awesome, bigger than awesome. Our job was to go into these houses that hadn't been touched in 10 months and clear out all of the belongings- couches, dressers, refrigerators, clothes, books, food, EVERYTHING, then we had to strip the house down to just the studs. The church we were staying at and working through expected our group to get three houses done, my incredible kids got ten houses done. That's more than any of the groups that have come through that church. I didn't hear the kids complain about the work a single time. We had to force them to take water breaks. They wanted to stay and work as late as possible each day. I am so proud of them.

When we got to New Orleans we went down to the French Quarter which didn't seem to have much damage from the hurricane. This area is very old, it looks like old cities in Europe (at least what I think those cities look like). New Orleans definitely rivals Las Vegas for the title of sin city. The closer you walked to Bourbon Street the stronger the smell of alcohol got. I'm sure my teenage boys got an eye full more than once. There was an overwhelming feeling of loss and hopelessness in the city. The people are weary and tired.

When we left the French Quarter we took the kids down to the 9th Ward, a poor neighborhood that was pretty much wiped out by the storm. The destruction was worse than I had imagined. We saw houses that were literally turned over on their side. The few brick houses in this neighborhood held together pretty well, but all of the other houses were completely lifted off their foundation. The flood water was higher than the roofs and didn't start going down for at least two weeks. Nothing and no one survived this storm. Each house had a spray painted number on it of the number of bodies found in it. This place was a ghost town. There was not sign of life anywhere. We drove down one street and saw a man working on his house. We got out and talked to him and prayed with him. He told us about an decorative angel that was on his roof that made it through the storm and still sits on the roof. There are signs of God everywhere.

The neighborhood we worked in was an average middle class area. It reminded me of the neighborhood I grew up in. Just imagine your house submerged in water for two weeks then left for 10 months. Everything was still wet, covered in mold, and completely filthy. I've never seen anything this nasty. We had to wear masks to protect our lungs and prevent nose bleeds. I just pray that our kids didn't breathe in anything that will affect them later. Our homeowners didn't know what they were going to do. It hasn't been decided whether these neighborhoods will be rebuilt or just completely demolished and returned to marsh land. I kept asking myself, who would build a city on a swamp?

I still have lots of questions and unresolved feelings about New Orleans. I'll probably write more about it. The one thing I know is this city must be redeemed. Not just physically, but spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. That is my prayer for New Orleans.

Remember Susan from The Bachelor in Paris? She lives in Overland Park, right here where I am. Maybe I'll run into her today.

I'm leaving for our high school mission trip in the morning at 6:00am. We are off to New Orleans to work on houses. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do, but I will be the best cheerleader out there! There will be lots of yelling from me, you can count on that!

I usually try to have a positive attitude, but I need to whine for a minute. I am so mad/upset/frustrated about my feet. All my kids do is play Capture the flag and volleyball and soccer and run marathons and on and on... I feel like I can't do anything. I really feel like a bad intern. And to top it off the doctor who took my cast off said my break has gotten worse. So, there you go. I'm whiny tonight.

Thursday, June 08, 2006

Well, I know you've all been dying for a KC update so here you go. First of all, I am tired. I forgot what the hours were like for an intern. Really, I'm too old for this. The other night I was out until 1:30, I haven't done that since my freshman year of college.

Next, I'm supposed to get my cast off on Friday! Yay!! I am so ready to take a real shower and shave my leg. I don't think I've ever actually looked forward to shaving my legs.

What else... I LOVE my kids. They are so funny. I still haven't even met half of them, though, because a lot of them have been out of town. Teenagers are so easy to love. All they want is to be loved and cared for. Tonight we played kick ball. What a classic game. I of course sat on the side line and screamed. I'm sure the kids appreciated that.

The house I'm staying in is so nice, but has one big flaw. No cable. Now all of you blog readers know how much I love my TV, so I'm sure you understand. Even Fox and WB don't have good reruns up here- no Friends, no Will and Grace. I guess the good Lord is trying to tell me something about my TV habit.

I'm really excited about this weekend. My dear friends Lynsey, Allison, and Anne-Marie are coming for a visit. We have such a great time together. I am so blessed.

It's so funny getting adjusted to a new place. There's so many questions like, where is the light switch in my office??? I still haven't figured that out, so I just leave the lights on. Sleeping in a new place is hard too. I spend my whole night wondering what that noise was. And driving in a new place is the worst. I know people get so mad at me when I realize I'm in the wrong lane and I have to suddenly get over. I know they see my Texas license plate and think 'Stupid Texas Driver.' Sorry Texas. It's funny meeting people at church. They always say, "Oh, you must be Sue. I saw your cast." I guess they wrote about my broken foot in the church bulletin or something. My kids are awesome though. It's funny how all youth groups are pretty much the same. They love to play games all night and TP the youth minister's house. On Wednesday night me and the other intern went with the kids to wrap Paul's (the youth minister) house. We sat in the car and watched and it was so funny. Paul has a bucket of water balloons at every door so as soon as the kids got to the lawn he started pelting them. A neighbor called the police who drove up right as Paul set off a bottle rocket in the back yard. I was about to die. My first night as an intern here and I get to watch the kids talking to the cops. Nice, I know. Pray for me, seriously.

Well, I made it. I, along with the red cast, the impala, Betty Kay, and three suitcases made it up here to the great state of Kansas last night. Is Kansas the sunflower state?? I see sunflowers on signs everywhere. I should probably know this about the state I'm living in. I just got back from dropping off my mom at the airport. She is so excited about Kansas. I am too. I really expected it to look like west Texas here. I think the western part of Kansas may look like that, but over here on the east side it is beautiful. There's rolling green hills with tons of trees. I've always defended Lubbock when people called it ugly, but it really is ugly. It's so pretty here, I'm so excited to live in such a nice area. The neighborhood where I live looks like Pleasantville. The people I'm staying with are so cute. And the church seems pretty awesome. So, as you can tell, I'm loving it so far. Please pray for my feet. My broken foot is healing very slowly and my other foot is still badly sprained from that crazy fall out of the shower. So, I'm still in a lot of pain. And it's really hard to get much work done when you feel like crap. Other than that things are great. I'm excited to fill all of you in on the cool things KC has to offer! I should totally be a tour guide.

I don't know what it is about my mom, but she cannot say words correctly to save her life. Seriously, she is a 1st grade teacher. You'd think she could get her phonics down. Tonight she asked me if I wanted to go get some gelapo. She was trying to ask me if I wanting to get some Italian ice cream known as gelato. What's gelapo, where did she get that? I have know idea. My brothers and I keep a running list of her word mistakes. Here are some classic ones:
"I lay my head down on a pilla" (pillow)
"I would like some guacamala on my taca" (guacamole, taco)
"Have you seen Jurastic Park?" (Jurassic)
"I miss NBC's old nightly news anchor Tom Brokoff" (Brokaw)
I know, it's totally hilarious. I wonder if her students go on to the 2nd grade pronouncing vocabulary words incorrectly. Don't get me wrong, I love her to death, look how cute she is:

But come on, let's learn those words Betty Kay.

Well, I think the addiction is severe. This last week without Grey's Anatomy has been tough. Since I don't have an plot lines to talk about, I'll fill you in on the latest GA gossip. Grey's is moving to Thursday nights to fight against CSI. I don't know how to feel about this. Some of the Grey's stars will be on Oprah this Friday. And I saw an unconfirmed report that Meredith is pregnant in real life. Hmmm, I wonder if this will affect the plot.

I'm only going to be in the 806 a few more days. On Friday I'm going to Dallas to spend some time with my niece (and brother and sister-in-law) then I'm off to Kansas. I'm a little nervous about this summer. I don't know a single person at this church. And I'm always worried that the kids won't like me or something. It's funny how intimidating teenage girls can be, even when you're not a teenager.

I've been able to spend some great time with my new pal Charlie Bowman. He is so cute. Andy and Amy, you did a great job.

I got my hair cut last week. It's really short. I can't decide if it's cute or butch. Oh well, it's just hair right?

I'm bored. On Wednesday I took a trip to Walmart and The Dollar Tree and wore myself out. So, my dad told me I had to take it easy. Taking it easy in Lubbock Texas is not that great. Now, taking it easy in Hawaii sounds pretty nice. There's just not a whole lot of day time tv that is very good. My parents do have an awesome cable station called soapnet which shows Beverly Hills 90210 everyday, and twice on the weekends!! If I could just have 90210 reruns in Hawaii, I'd be set.

Ahhhh, the good life.

Well, the doctor told me that I broke my 5th metatarsal and the bottom of my tibia (leg bone). That was quite a fall. The doctor decided I needed to wear a cast for three weeks. So, here I am in the heat with a big red sweat machine wrapped around my leg. He didn't have any fun colors for me to choose from either. I was hoping for pink. Once I had camouflage casts, that was really cool. Cody Batton's brother was the one who put my cast on. I think that is neat.

Someone (Jeremy Thornton) is tired of my Grey's Anatomy posts. Don't worry, there won't be any more of those posts until September :( And by the way, ESPN and Fox Sports are not the "real world."

I had a super duper birthday. I can't believe I'm twenty four. That's seems old. (but not compared to a lot of people who read this blog -- haha!) My parents took me to Harrigans for dinner. It was yummy.

I must close now. I going to attempt to take a one legged bath. Let's pray for no more injuries!

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

Okay, I'm ready to update about the show. Last night I had so much drama just trying to watch it, but finally about 9:30 we were able to sit down and watch it thanks to the power of DVR.
Here are some of my favorite parts of the show:
-"She was turning in her V-card"
-Alex finally being a nice guy again
-Derek touching Meredith's hand when they were putting the dog down
-Meredith confronting the chief about his affair with her mom
-Izzy's beautiful dress
-Anything Bailey did, she is so funny

Derek and Meredith, please just get together. Stop hurting Addison and Finn.
Izzy, please don't leave the show, we love you.
George and Callie have the weirdest relationship.
I love those interns, they are a family.

I have an appointment with my orthopedic doctor today at 5:45. So, I'm supposed to spend the day in bed with my broken foot propped up to get the swelling to go down. It's funny, I usually spend all day wishing I was in bed, but now that I have to just lay there bored, I really don't want to be in bed all day.

Monday, May 15, 2006

Well, this episode made me way too tired to write about it. I must go to sleep now.

Sunday, May 14, 2006

Oh my gosh!!! Thank you so much ABC for not making me wait a whole summer to find out what happens next. Izzy: What were you thinking!!! Is Burk going to die?? I doubt it. Will Izzy loose her job? Will Denny die? Oh, and when Meredith told Finn she still loved him (obviously Derek) it was so sweet/sad, I think they call that bittersweet. But what about Chris O'Donnell? This is a good one!

I'M BROKEN!!!!

Well, I'm back in the 806 now. And it's hot. I'm ready for KC.

After my tumble in the shower (by the way, thanks a lot for laughing at me-you know who you are!) I was left a little weak. So, yesterday as I was loading up my car to leave Abilene, I was trying to be very careful to avoid another fall. Unfortunately, as I stepped off the curb I rolled my other ankle and fell and spilled my stuff all over the parking lot and under the car. What the crap. I really need an assistant. Well, I came home and my ankle was really hurting and it was all purple, so this morning my mom took me to the doctor. Turns out, I broke my foot in two places. My goodness. Now I'm supposed to hobble around on the other foot which was already hurt from the other fall. This is a really inconvenient time for a broken foot. I'm supposed to go up to Kansas City and run around and be silly and crazy. I can't be crazy Sue with a broken foot. Ahhhh! Does anyone want to trade legs with me. I would really appreciate it.

This is the Spin Spa. I bought mine for $15 at the local Bed, Bath, and Beyond. This is a wonderful product that has greatly increased my joy in the tub. I must warn you though, this product is dangerous. One morning, while I was taking a shower, I was using the pumice stone attatchment on the bottom of my feet. I guess that made my feet a little slippery because the next thing I knew I was laying on the bathroom floor. I had fallen out of the shower! How scary! I was so scared I had to call my dad and tell him how scared I was. Luckily, I didn't hurt myself too bad. I didn't use the spin spa for a few days after this incident, and now I only use it if I'm sitting down, I can't take any chances.

Tuesday, May 09, 2006

I'm awake. I did go to sleep for awhile, but now I'm awake. I guess I'm worried about my finals. New Testament will be here in four short hours. I can't believe that after today, my first year of grad school is over.

STRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, May 02, 2006

May 1st, the due date of my final paper! That's right, all of my papers are in!

I'm still awake. Now, I realize that it is not THAT late yet, but I'm much closer to being awake than asleep. Maybe this is God's way of telling me that I need to study some more Greek before I call it a night.

A couple of things happened to me today.
First, I got an email about an additional scholarship available to ministry students. I need all the money I can get, so I started reading the application for it. It turns out that this nice family who donated the money for the scholarship only wants the money to go to a MALE ministry student. Ouch, that hurts. That's pretty discouraging.
Second, I got a letter in the mail from my dear friend Emily Lemley. She is the editor for Power for Today, a Christian mailout thing. She wants me to write a couple of articles for this little magazine. I realize that just about anyone can write articles for this and it's not that big of a deal, but it's really nice to be asked. That's pretty affirming.
