My apartment complex has three small lakes that are home to many ducks. This may be my favorite part of living here. Sometimes when I go down to check the mail I see this lady feeding the ducks. It's really cute, but she does it right in the middle of the parking lot. I don't know about you, but I would prefer to feed the ducks on the grass- where cars don't live. Anyways, today I went down to get the huge stack of bills out of my mailbox and there was the duck lady. She was feeding them in the parking lot and creating a traffic jam in the process. Once she realized what she was doing she looked down at the ducks and actually said the words: "Come on kids, let's get out of the way." I was so taken back I almost tripped on the sidewalk.
Meanwhile, things are pretty crazy right now. This evening I returned from our middle school mission trip. In a week I leave for the high school trip. My interns have arrived, my co-minister is finally here, and we're in the middle of an office remodel. But all of those things are secondary. I have thirteen year old twin boys who are losing their mother to a horrible fight with cancer. Her name is Jane, and she is all I can think about. This is hard.
